Twose, Ph.D. as its new CEO effective November 1, 2004. Dr. Twose succeeds retiring CEO, Terrence R. Dolan Ph.D., who founded BIOPONS in 2003 with the Kelly family, father Jack and sons Scott and Jerry. BIOPONS of Madison, Wisconsin, creates and develops bioscience-based companies and provides a wide range of managerial, developmental and operational services to new and expanding bioscience-based companies. “From the inception of the company, one of my duties was to identify and recruit the long-term leadership of BIOPONS,” Dolan said. “We’re most fortunate to find an individual such as Dr. Twose with such outstanding skills and experience. I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Twose and BIOPONS as a director and consultant,” he added. Dr. Twose returned to Madison in early 2003 where he began his career as a postdoctoral researcher at UW-Madison. He joined BIOPONS as Principal Consultant in July 2004. Prior to his return to Madison, he gained 30 years of international experience in the pharmaceutical, diagnostics and biotechnology industry sectors, primarily with companies in the development and start-up stage. Dr. Twose has held senior drug research positions at ICI Pharmaceuticals (now AstraZeneca), was Chief Financial Officer of Xenova Group and Chief Executive of Medical Solutions, all in the United Kingdom. He was a founder of ICI Diagnostics and Cellmark Diagnostics in the U.K. and U.S.A. (now part of Orchid Cellmark), and was also founder and CEO of EPPTCO (precursor to Proacta Therapeutics), bringing together scientists and technology from New Zealand and the U.K. Most recently he was with Scarab Genomics, a UW-Madison spinout company. Dr. Dolan, the former Director of the Waisman Center at the UW-Madison, also serves as the Director of the Fitchburg Technology Campus. The Campus, a new 120-acre development at the intersection of Fish Hatchery Road and Lacy Road, was initiated by the Kelly family in 2001. Dr. Dolan will continue on as Advisor to the Fitchburg Technology Campus. Dolan noted, “BIOPONS and the Fitchburg Technology Campus will continue to play an important role in the development of biotechnology in Fitchburg and the Greater Madison area. It is these types of initiatives that will promote the success and economic development our community is seeking.” BIOPONS will be located on the Campus when the New Venture Zone is completed next year. Fitchburg Technology Campus is the first of its kind in the Midwest. Located just minutes south of Madison, Wisconsin, the campus will house dozens of high-tech businesses, a thriving retail center, parks, recreational areas and rich residential offerings when complete. With its close proximity to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, it will also serve as a hotbed for biotechnological start-up firms.
