Mithridion, Inc is the first biotechnology company created by BIOPONS in pursuit of its "Capturing Value in Biotechnology" strategy. BIOPONS aims to add new companies to its portfolio as exciting, breakthrough technologies become available for licensing.
Mithridion, Inc was formed in November 2004 to exploit a breakthrough discovery from UW Madison of small-molecule activators of a novel natural mechanism that protects against Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Mithridion is focused on designing and developing disease-modifying drugs, which are potential blockbusters that will halt the otherwise inexorable progression of AD. No existing drug affects disease progression.
AD is one of the most serious medical problems of the developed world. It is a $2.8bn market segment with enormous growth potential, driven by demographics, and for which therapeutic needs are poorly met.
The management team, led by an experienced CEO, is already in place to lead Mithridion through the next stages of its development. Our strategy is to develop drugs to the stage of proving clinical efficacy. We expect to have our first drug candidate in clinical trials within 3 years and for it to be in Phase II in 5 years. We aim to realize value, in the form of fees, royalties and other payments, by partnering our drug candidates (possibly retaining co-marketing or co-promotion rights) with major pharmaceutical partners.
